Old Man Wrestling (OMW) as it is affectionately called is a place any athlete out of high school looking to have fun doing the sport they love. Held at a time late enough that you can come home from work and have dinner with the family before practice, it is made with professionals in mind who need to live their lives and have a separate schedule for fun.

Our practices are designed to encourage light hearted competition, while also keeping us in shape, improving over time and heading back to work the next day. We have new learners, college athletes, old coaches, and former wrestlers in the room looking to compete without getting hurt.

Old Man Wrestling Goals and Structure

The intention of OMW is to create a space for post High School athletes and former wrestlers to go and enjoy their sport once again. Practices are hosted by clubs and maintained by those clubs. Events are hosted by Beat The Streets New England and support that organization. Structure to the practices and events is important to maintain a similar atmosphere across OMW practices and events. Kept light, inviting, fun yet competitive these practices help old men get back on the mat and enjoy this sport again.

Old Man Wrestling started with a few friends wanting to host a single practice where alumni could wrestle again and have some fun. That night a few old men got up from their couches and went to practice one more time. They proved a point, wrestling can be fun. The concept has eluded our sport for so long.

From here two men pioneered Old Man Wrestling, Brett Poirier and Kyle Kummer designed a concept for regular practices with a couple simple statements:

1) We all have work tomorrow

2) You’re old now

The sentiment that you can still wrestle but need to understand your limits creates a fun environment where you can still be competitive and safe. Old Man Wrestling has seen remarkable results. Old Men have been improving in their athletic abilities, lost weight, gained confidence, and created new friends.

Programs that host Old Man Wrestling have seen massive improvements as well; Funding from memberships, volunteers for events, and even some old men have gone to coach and create new teams of their own.
